The song I will be
working with is called “Dead Roses” by Andrew Cole. I think this is going to be a really fun song
to work on. It is an Acoustic Folk-Pop
song, which is a little closer to my preferred genre than the song I worked on
for the minor project. I found this song on the Cambridge site. I did a lot of browsing before I settled on
this one, and I think that I can come up with something creative with
this. Listening to it, I think that some
emphasis can be switched up. I think the
drums are a little loud. The mix,
overall, can be evened out.
For my timeline, I
can work in 006 Wednesday nights after class.
Once my hours in there are complete, I have access to Pro Tools at home
so time in the audio labs will not be necessary. I will be working on the surround sound mix
first, to ensure that I have the time in 006 to get that done. I will not be able to work on a successful
surround mix outside of that room. I’m
also pretty excited to work on surround sound, so I want to jump right in to
that. Having the surround mix mostly finished for the rough draft will put me
in good shape to make changes after receiving notes back and to start work on
the stereo mix.
I think this song
has some elements of Fun. In it. The
sound of the piano reminds me of some of the songs on their first album, Aim
and Ignite. I think that is going to be
a big influence for me when working on this song. I think that Ben Kweller is going to
influence my mix as well. I think I am going to use fun.’s “Carry On” for a
reference track on this song. I will
need to keep looking for a surround sound reference though, as I have not found
one as of yet.
I think I can
bring a unique perspective to this project.
I really like the sound of the song, and I think that’s going to help me
have the patience to work on it for an extended period of time. A problem that I have had in the past is losing
interest in a song that I may not particularly like. I think this song will have a nice folksy
feel to it, and will benefit quite nicely from my choice of reference
tracks. Some things that I might have
trouble with are the acoustic guitar and the drums. I don’t particularly like the way they sound in
the mix posted online. I’d really like
to change them, but I don’t know what I would like from them just yet. I want the mix to sound a little less “live”
than it does right now.
