Minor Project Writeup

For the song I did a good hour and a half was spent sorting out, labeling and grouping the 60+ tracks that came with this song. My goal was to cut my number of faders down significantly because 60 tracks made mixing so difficult. I ended up just muting a large portion of the guitar tracks because it was simply too much noise. For each of the guitars there were 3 tracks recorded which ended up with an ungodly amount of essentially the same track over and over. The bass and the drums were not nearly as cluttered. Looking at the whole sound I do think it had potential just not with the 60 tracks. A song that simple should have been at most 30. The biggest complaint I had was with the singer. I was not happy with his voice at all, but it is what it is. I did like the combo of an upper and lower snare mic which allowed me to taylor the sound of the snare pretty easily. I pulled back the overhead mic's so that we would not get that massive cymbal crashing throughout the entire song. I went with a singer back mix as my alternate because I felt the singer was the weakest part of the song so being able to pull him back and highlight different instruments was nice. I ran out of time but if I was going to continue working on this mix I would have added in some automation to change the feeling between the choruses and the verses.
