This song is in 4/8 meter.
I
am in love with this song. It starts with this catchy riff by one of
the guitar, the drums are going all over the place and the bass is
actually audible which is a change. What I can tell from this song,
is that everything seemed panned pretty much towards the middle as
for vocals, there is not much deviance there. There is some small
reverb and compression to liven up the main vocals. The backing
vocals seem to pan from left to right, behind the main vocals and
there is reverb on them. As for the instruments, at first listen,
they seemed to be panned center, but upon further listening, they
sneakily pan from left to right via reverb or some effect, much like
the backing vocals. There is a main guitar, then during the verses,
there is a second guitar playing a melody that sweeps from right to
left. It gives the song some body in the verses. The bass is
compressed but that may just be to make it audible without trying to
distort the actual signal. I cannot tell if it is a DI or a mic on
the amp itself. But the bass is actually audible which is a nice
change. The drums are panned all over the place. The toms are right
to left, the snare is more in the right part of the ear and the
symbols are all over the place. There is compression on the kick and
the snare. At first I didn't think there was, but when I listened
again, there was compression.
This song was mixed by Andy
Wallace, the same person the mixed Nirvana's “Smells Like Teen
Spirit”. I can see a lot of the similarities between the two mixes.
One of the main things that pops out at me is how muddy the drums
sound, but how big they sound at the same time. In “Smells Like
Teen Spirit”, the drums were treamoudly huge in the mix, but
sounded muddy, almost like there were no effects on the kit itself.
Also the bass stood out to me as well. In both songs there is bass
when there is no singing.
