For my minor project I will be working on Ava Luna's track "Water Duct," which I have access to via Shaking Through. I'd like to try a super mellow mix with this track. It has a really sweet sound to it, and I haven't really worked on a track like this previously. I have mostly worked on punk/garage band kind of tracks. I think this is going to present me with a different focus and will force me to put on a different set of ears.
For this track, I will use Kevin Devine's "Heaven Bound and Glory Be" and River City Extension's "Standing Outside a Southern Riot." They're both fairly stripped down and mellow songs, and I think they'll be good listening for this mix.
My availability is somewhat restricted, but I do have Monday nights and Thursday nights starting at 6:00. I also have Tuesday before 12:30 free.
I hope to bring a unique perspective to this project. I think with the music I personally listen to that I have some good references for this type of track. It's not an artist I am familiar with, so I think that not having heard them before is an advantage, and an opportunity to really experiment. Having a lot of time to work on it is going to be great, too. It'll be really nice to spend time on the mix, and really get it to a point where I am satisfied with it.
I definitely know there will be hurdles. This is one of the most extensive projects I have done so far in school, so it will be a really great and interesting experience. I think having more time to work on it could be a downfall as well as a blessing, in the sense that it'll give me more time to question my choices and to want to change things or strive for perfection. I will need to push myself to really work with the tracks and make some interesting choices, instead of just doing a straight forward mix of the song. I want to make this track my own and develop a personal style.
