Time Signature/ Tempo: the song keeps a consistent time signature, but at 3:16 the beat goes into half speed

Equipment used:  Roland MV8000 sequencer, Yamaha Motif ES7 and Novation X-Station keyboards, a PC with a Didigesign M Box interface and Pro Tools LE recording software, Neumann TML103 mic, Presonus Eureka preamp, Event ASP8 and Yamaha HS80 monitors, and a Mackie Universal control surface

Effects:
Drums - gate filter to improve sample quality/remove background noise. EQ to boost the low of the bass drum at 100Hz. gate filter on high hats to allow them to cut through. compression to final drum track to harden the sound.
Keys - compression to beef up the sound. EQ, boosting around 100-200Hz while dropping some highs at 2500Hz. Vocal Chorus Spinner to add vocal chorus effect and pan synth from side to side.
Vocals - backing vocals have compressor, high pass filter. Main vocals have a compressor, Digidesign de-esser and auto-tune.
Final Master Track - compressor

Producing/Mixing Process: the process Dot Da Genius used was fairly standard for him. Starting with the beat, Dot only used three tracks: kicks, claps/snares and hi-hats. For this he used the MV8000. According to Dot, he had “the option of buying an [Akai] MPC, but every single producer that [he] was aware of had one, and so [he] went for the MV8000,” since it was the least popular one, and would give him a unique sound. Once he finished the beat, he quantized it a lot, to give it a “strict” feel. After everything sounded right to him, he recorded the drums as audio, to lock it in. He would then go on to record the synths using the Motif as the main keyboard and the Novation for the other synths. Once the beat and the keys were complete, he then recorded that all as audio.  -->
In 2007, the year Day ‘n’ Nite was produced, Pro Tools had a limit of 24 tracks per session, and by the time the beat was complete, the session was full. Dot then mixed the session into a stereo pair, which he then recorded CuDi’s vocals on.
