To start, this song won a
Grammy for best mastering in 2013. It was part of The Hunger Games
soundtrack. This song
isn't really something that I listen to that much, just because of
the artist, Taylor Swift. But this song was very very good. It was
folksy and a bit haunting. The mixing was very good too. There wasn't
much that wasn't panned either. There was sweeping from left to
right, but no so much from right to left. The backing vocals were the
ones that stuck out the most to me, as being the most drastic to
sweep. There was a very faint synth going on in the back that was
panning but as the listener, I had to really concentrate to see when
and where it was going to. The song was mostly guitar, and vocals.
There was a little bit of drums that came in during the last quarter
or so of the song. I couldn't tell if there was a lot of reverb on
the vocals or not. I know they used some, just so the vocals wouldn't
sound too dry but nothing too much or fancy. The slide guitar gave
the song a real country-esq feel and as I stated above, haunting.
With that going on in the right ear, and the synth going on in the
left, it gave a very dreary feel to it. It was pretty amazing
actually. I didn't think I would like this song to be honest because
it is Taylor Swift, but the mixing, did it wonders and I actually
really like this song.
