Minor
Project Proposal
Man
About a Dog- Maggie May
I
decided to do choose this song for the minor project after browsing
around for some time on the gearslutz.com forums. Most of the work
for this mix will end up being done at my home on my own equipment,
however due to a recent move I will not have access to any monitors,
so a large portion of the work will be done on headphones. Because of
this I intend to work in 006 as much as possible. I am only available
to use 006 on wednesday mornings before 2 and weekdays after 6. Since
the majority of the mixing will take place on headphones I intend to
make several bounces of the project, each time listening to them in
as many different settings as possible. Hopefully this will allow me
to smooth out any problems that can come from mixing solely on
headphones. My reference tracks for this song are Steady as she Goes
by the Raconteurs, and Life's Been Good by Joe Walsh. On the mix I
will be trying to achieve a more modern version of classic rock, with
a roomy drum kit like in Steady as she goes, but also with up front
and very quirky sounding vocals to go along with the lyrics. The song
has a lot of groove going on in it and instrumentation going on in
it; so maintaining that throughout the mixing process will be one of
my goals. I think the majority of the challenges will come from the
bleed into all the mics, as most of the song was tracked
simultaneously. Also working with the guitar tones will be a
challenge, as they were recorded with a lot of distortion and sound
like they make a buzz sound on the snare drum in the beginning of the
track. I like the guitar tone somewhat but tweaking it will be more
difficult now because of the amount of distortion that is already on
it. Overall I am looking forward to working on this track for the
minor project.
